Fifth Annual Flag Football Event Kicks off Super Bowl Weekend as Celebrities and Athletes Compete in a No-Holds-Barred Flag Football Game; Maroon 5 to Perform Event to be Broadcast Live on The 101 Network and for the First Time in 3D on DIRECTV's n3D Powered by Panasonic, as well as Fox Sports Network's Regional Sports Networks and Affiliates and DIRECTV's Regional Sports Networks EL SEGUNDO, Calif., Dec. 21, 2010 — DIRECTV's beachfront property in Victory Park will become the most coveted piece of Dallas real estate — aside from Cowboys Stadium — when fans descend on "Big D" for Super Bowl Weekend. That's where one million pounds of sand, A-list celebrities, NFL athletes and thousands of spectators will converge on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, for DIRECTV's Fifth Annual Celebrity Beach Bowl, presented by SPIKE HD. DIRECTV is taking over Victory Park and transforming it into a massive custom-made stadium, complete with a sand-filled football field and concert stage, constructed especially for the event, which is free and open to the public. The game and performance will air live on DIRECTV's The 101 Network and, for the first time ever, will also be broadcast in 3D on DIRECTV's n3D powered by Panasonic. Additionally, the game will be broadcast on all of Fox Sports Network's Regional Sports Networks and affiliates and DIRECTV's Regional Sports Networks, more than twenty-five networks in total, giving the DIRECTV Celebrity Beach Bowl its biggest audience ever of more than 85 million homes. Everything is bigger in Texas and this year's Fifth Annual DIRECTV Celebrity Beach Bowl, which has become one of the must-attend events of Super Bowl weekend, will be no exception. The entertainment world's hottest celebrities, along with current and former NFL athletes, will compete head to head in an exhilarating matchup in front of thousands of fervent fans. Immediately following the game and trophy presentation, the crowd will fill the beach for a concert featuring Maroon 5, presented by Palladia HD. The day will begin at 1:30 p.m. ET/PT with pre-game show hosted by Dan Patrick and Kevin Frazier, presented by SHOWTIME. At 2:30 p.m. the game will begin when celebrities and athletes take the field. The DIRECTV Celebrity Beach Bowl will be played over two, 20-minute halves and the action will be called by Patrick, entertainment reporter Nancy O'Dell and sideline reporter Tony Siragusa. The DIRECTV Blimp will be flying overhead to add to the excitement. Celebrities who stormed the beach for last year's event in Miami included Jennifer Lopez (Grammy® Award-winning performer and actress), Taylor Lautner (The Twilight Saga: New Moon, Valentine's Day), Chace Crawford (Gossip Girl), Marisa Miller (Victoria's Secret, Harley Davidson and Sports Illustrated model), Ed Westwick (Gossip Girl), Kellan Lutz (Twilight), Olivia Munn (Iron Man 2), Jessica Szohr (Gossip Girl), singer/songwriter Brian McKnight, comedians Marlon, Shawn and Keenan Wayans, Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad, Big Love), Michael Clark Duncan (The Green Mile), C.S. Lee and David Zayas (Dexter on Showtime) and Dominic Fumusa (Nurse Jackie on Showtime).. Super Bowl-winning New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning made a return appearance to coach Team Palladia HD and while Mark Sanchez of the New York Jets lead Team Spike HD to victory. Hall of Famer Warren Moon and former NFL MVP Rich Gannon captained their respective teams, that included Merrill Hoge, Daryl Johnston, Desmond Howard, La'Roi Glover, Eddie George and Mark Schlereth. |
